In Puerto Rico they say "La juventud es atrevida" which translates into "the young can be very risky or adventurous". Well, that was...
...Me at 25yo
I have been a blogger since 2009 (formerly known as The Collage Blog) and around 2015-2016 I received an invitation to the opening of Macy's in Plaza del Caribe in Ponce, PR. My excitement lasted till I saw it was on a weekday which meant that I was working a 8-5. I was (and still am) a small blogger and to receive such an invitation was such a surprise. It felt amazing, crazy, like a dream come true I must say.
I barely slept thinking on what to do and I finally collected enough courage to ask for a day off: that specific day off with just a few days of notice. Remembering this makes me laugh because indeed, you can see I was pure at heart. I mean, I was responsible enough to even though on the possibility of missing out this event, and also thinking that "I must go with the truth and she will say yes, because, hey! many people lie about being sick or their kids being sick or any other lie just to take a day off. I just need to be honest". - I told myself repeatedly
So, there I was standing from my desk and walking straight towards Miss Kelly. I stood up with the truth: "Miss kelly, I need to ask for a day off. Look, what happens is that I am a small blogger and I have been invited to the opening of Macy's in Ponce and I truly don't want to miss this event. I could had lied to you, but instead, I choose to tell you the truth. This is a very important event for me." - Said Cheska with an open heart.
Miss Kelly said yes and I will be forever grateful for it.
And there she was, a young 25 yo full of dreams & ambitions in the world of blogging and photography... or so I thought.
I arrived and was trying to fix my camera settings. Took a picture of the mall and it was DARK.
Panic enters the room.
A few days before, I must had been shooting in the wild and at night because the ISO, lighting and other stuff was set to dark and I forgot that little detail... and all of a sudden the lady in charge of the event opened the door and said "welcome and let's begin...we prepared a welcome breakfast".
I barely ate because I was disappointed.
I was like "yay...my camera is not ready" so I did what I could. This mistake taught me to check my camera the day before.

| The Welcome Breakfast |
They gave us a tour before the store was open to the public. It was a long walk and I was impressed. It was polished, well curated when it comes in visual balance. It is Macy's you know. But, it was not finished yet, I remember seeing workers here and there, portable stairs, etc.
At the end of the tour, they gifted us some goodies.
It was a great experience, my first "big event" as a blogger and every time I take a look of these pictures I genuinely smile. Remembering all I went trough to get to this day, what happened in that day, the people I met, and to hear that woman talking about store design, how important this opening was for the economy, etc reminds me that at times, we must take risks to unlock new experiences.
Note: If you are a long time reader you saw these pictures back in the days. The reason why it disappeared was because I changed the blog to a new domain.
Also, you may have noticed that many posts in this blog were also deleted; restaurant reviews, trips, makeup, hand bags, etc. It was because my life crumbled (click) down to pieces in 2023 and it felt safe at the moment to delete many pictures that were reminding me of a past I wanted to forget.
I will be posting those again because it was a big part of my life and it does not hurt me anymore.
Keep Moving Forward,
