I don't want this post just to be another hair care post on the internet so, I am going deep with my story of how my hair started to fall out in chunky pieces and how I took action to stop the hair loss. It was so bad that I genuinely though I was going bald.
Your Emotions are Tied To your Hair Health
Context:
Around 2015 I committed one of the biggest mistakes of my life: I decided to engage in a toxic-romantic relationship.
I ended this nightmare in the summer of 2023 and like the pain of the mess was not enough, my hair suffered the consequences of me being ok handling stress and depression for 7 years.
It happened just like when you are done with a hell of a college semester; you get sick in the beginning of your vacation.
Now, your body is able to relax and you are no longer in survival mode. My body started an emotional detox and my hair started to fall off in a rate that I had never seen before. I could had built a wig if I decided to keep all of those hair strands. It never crossed my mind to take pictures of that horrifying moment, in where even my face changed. My face changed so much I could barely recognize myself. My hair was just not falling, it also had a unhealthy look, it was dry and looking fried.
It was a horrifying stage of the healing I was experimenting. My body was purging years of emotional and financial abuse.
Also, at that moment I was under the umbrella of christianity and the pain was so strong, I was so vulnerable that I wanted to feel God near, next to me so He can hear my healing prayer faster. I wanted the pain to go away, I wanted to be able to breath and to smile again. So I decided to fast for long days which was very easy because I also lost my appetite. I believe that it was this situation that helped me to understand that fasting is not the great health benefit Youtube is telling us it is. Fasting contributed to prolong the stress I was already feeling.
It was a very messy situation and I had 2 options: to keep feeling sick, or to start crawling in my way to rise and shine again.

Long story short a couple of months passed and people started noticing me looking healthier and younger again. My hair slowly stopped falling out and it started to grow healthy and strong. I started eating plenty of healthy foods mostly meat, eggs, bacon, fruits, collagen, protein powder, exercising, journaling, going out, spending time in nature, reading my Bible, and did my research on shampoos and hair supplements, etc.
Also, I had a major hair cut because I wanted to get rid of all the old hair to say hi to a new era with Francheska 2.0.

This whole rebirth totally felt like Selena's song "I needed to loose you to love me".
Now time has passed and all of this new hair is totally knew. My hair looks prettier, healthier, and longer.
I am Trying New Products
I started to try new hair care products including Camel Glow, Garnier, and Apretol. I will wait a little longer to give my opinion.
Basic Hair Care Tips
1. Wash your hair everytime you need to to avoid product build up and bacteria. Right now I am starting a new hair challenge: to wash my hair everyday to see if it really boost hair growth.
2. Use a hair mask at least weekly to really see the benefits and the effects. This is how you test hair products to determine if it is appropriate for your hair type. Don't forget to use a plastic bag or cap to apply some heat. This will increase hair mask effectiveness.
3. Use a soft brush and start de-tangling from bottom to roots. This avoids breakage and your hair will feel softer and will look healthier.
4. Use a silk hair cap for sleep time. This also will avoid breakage, friction resulting in a gorgeous-good morning-my love- I love you so much kind of hair.
5. If you have the means, try to stylize your hair in air conditioned rooms. This diminishes frizz to 0 in my case because of how humid Puerto Rico is. My hair is medium porosity so this helps me to seal the cuticle of my hair resulting in gorgeous sleek shiny hair.
6. Invest in quality heat tools. This may take you a while and some money but it will be totally worth it. I recommend titanium.
In resume, keep your mental health on check. Inner beauty and peace is tied to your external beauty.
