I am amazed of how many trends have surged along the years. How can people stay updated with so many and even worst, how can people keep spending money to look according to the last trend? So, the truth about the clean girl aesthetic is as dirty as any other failed trend: consumerism. Noticed that these trends are very short lived because people always go back to authenticity.
People will always go back to what feels genuine and to what fits their lifestyle. So, please don't spend your hard earn money on products that you will regret buying later and probably will end up in your trash can.
The Problem with the "Clean" Word
If they are labeling somebody as "clean" that means everybody else is "dirty". I took my time to see a couple of videos about this trend and this is what I found:
1. You are applying gel to your hair to look like a mannequin. This will leave you bald because of clogged follicles, alcohol, excessive hair washing, and overall your hair will be under stress (pulling). Styling your hair in one direction often can lead to hair fall. Yes, your glazed donuts looking hair will give you traction alopecia.
Jojo Siwa style...
2. Like any other trend, they tell you how to smell.
3. You look like a beige boring home with those overpriced clothing. Like when people try to emulate the old money style.
So, ok let's put it this way: every trend is telling you how to dress, the colors you need, how to smell, how to style your hair, nails, accessories, etc.
Any concept of "how to be X,Y, Z needs to go. Like Hillary Duff "let's go back, back to the beginning (if you are a millennial you love Hillary Duff!). Let's go back to be authentic, to embrace colors, shapes, textures, and most of all let's respect people's individuality. Like the 2000's without the bullying (remember Jessica and Ashley Simpson? people really did them dirty, but this is another post for another day).
Keep it real; it is good to feel human often.
Taking care of your appearance should not be a burden, but a joy. To be clean, presentable, and well groomed is simply self respect. As long as you are being hygienic, you are on the right path. The extras like makeup and beauty treatments are meant to be treated as options. If you would like to improve your features you do it with peace and not because you feel pushed to do it.
How to be a "Clean Girl"
1. Shower, exfoliate
2. Use antibacterial soap as often as you need to.
3. Use your favorite body lotion and fragrance.
4. Clean your mouth.
5. Your clothes should be clean, spotless, hole-less (jaja).
6. Keep your shoes clean.
7. Your hair cut and scalp health also determines your final look.
8. Wash your hair as often as you need.
9. Keep your nails clean and use the nail color that goes with your identity.
And there you have it. You don't need anything else to achieve a "clean girl" aura. Let's not talk about laminated eyebrows, because not everybody has the hairs to do that. So, you can't feel guilty for a feature that it is not in your genes and that will require expensive treatments or time to grow with oils. You just need to use common sense and have healthy hygiene habits.
Do not support trends; they are created to leave you empty, insecure, and lost in the search of who you are. Explore, experiment, try all the things you want but stay true to who you are and don't spend money on products that will end up in your trash can.
Buy what you can afford and make the best out of it.
Keep Moving Forward
