Pop & Gossip Culture: Why Many are Obsessed with Other People's Life?

Been there done that; a huge part of my life since teenage years to almost my mature adulthood, the curiosity of "how is she doing, she was my fave actress or singer when I has 13 years old" was real.  But also, I have to say that a major part of my time was spent on learning languages, watching japanese cartoons, korean dramas, studying for my tests, making projects, managing a blog, making videos (I deleted all of them) and going to places.

I had a few magazines back in the day (this was the color of my room back in 2010). Cute idea: organize your magazines with a belt you no longer use.

I had a life and this curiosity for famous people was an occasional thing.  When people engage in long conversations with me, they are astonished with the amount of knowledge I have about almost any topic; finances, lifestyle, health, fashion, beauty, nutrition, science, universe, philosophy, religion, technology, and the list goes on.  When I am not sure about something I just say "I need to learn about that, have not heard of it till now".

(All of these are old pictures I have had archived. Now they serve a purpose)

But this is not the case for a lot of people that eats, breath and experience life through others.  Reddit is the perfect example of people living lives they don't even know how they even work.  They can just imagine and love to create narratives using 30 minutes of somebody else's life. I am aware that gossip culture has been around since ancient times.  Even the bible is full of gossip, drama, and pope-pular (can't get rid of this joke) people.  It is because social media exposes easily and faster information nowadays, that it feels like a plague just hit us, but fin fact, gossip have been always part of society.

I am  aware that people found a gold mine in youtube and gossip is one of the most profitable niches right now.  But, why are you allowing a distraction to consume hours of your day?  While you are distracted in the latest gossip of X celebrity, they are building empires and getting their life together.  Also, let's say that Juanito Méndez is now earning thousands in a month on youtube revenue, still, Juanito Méndez is giving away his capability of doing/learning something bigger to reach the next level.

Same goes with fandoms, they persecute anyone that does not like what their "adorable can do no wrong" celebrity has done.  The obsession with keeping up with every single comment or dislike on celebrity pages is unreal.  I had the experience on instagram and let me tell you, this girl learnt her lesson, she even apologized to me.  I sent her back to school so she can generate a new brain and a more uplifting life expectations.  It was not a fight, but a true conversation.

Sometimes we need to take the bully from their horns.

I wonder, are these people getting paid or talking directly with these celebrities?  So much loyalty in exchange of what? A like? A follow back in your fake account?  Where is the self esteem of these people?  Seems to me like we are one step closer everyday of becoming what the Disney movie "Wall-E" showed us on 2008.

Why do people avoid taking time to reflect, to breath, and to spend time with themselves.  To hear nature, to connect with God, the universe or whatever you name that grater force.  Seems to me that many people are afraid of facing their reality and to be with their own thoughts.  When in reality, that is how we learn, grow, evolve and become better everyday.

But,

I also understand that everybody is on their life journey.  We see and perceive the world according to our environment, life circumstances, what we saw in childhood, and so many other facts.  It is not my job to open your eyes; this is just food for thought.  I mean, and please understand when I say that we are capable and able to create so many wonderful things and people choose to conform to the lowest and stick with the easiest.

But like I said, every journey is different.

 Keep Moving Forward,
